What causes hair loss after childbirth?
Hair loss after pregnancy can be due to hormonal changes, and not only affect our hair
but also our skin and nail. Most women experience temporary hair loss
after pregnancy. Hair loss after pregnancy is a medical condition called
postpartum telogen effluvium, more than 85% of women experience hair
loss after child birth. It is normal to shed 50 to 100 strands of hair a day. However during pregnancy our level of hormones and estrogen are very
high and prevent the normal, daily shedding of hairs to occur .
Once pregnancy is over, your hormonal and estrogen levels drop, your hair follicles enter the resting stage and gradually all
those hairs that should have fallen out daily start to fall out. This
condition is temporarily and last six(6) to (8)eight months. However
hair loss during and after pregnancy may also be a sign of a vitamin or
mineral deficiency. After child birth you should continue taking
vitamins and have balance diet .

DID YOU KNOW?
Human hair is growing in definite cycles.
Anagen is the phase of hair growth which is from 2 to 8
years long. During this period the cells in hair papillas divide
themselves continually and this way they build the stalk of a hair. A
stalk becomes hardened with keratin while gradual growing out of the
cells into the skin pores. At the same time the cell is growing into
deeper layers of skin to get nutrition
Catagen is the next phase which is relatively short because it lasts
for only 2 to 4 weeks and it is the phase of a hair renewal.
Telogen is the last phase of a rest which lasts from 2
to 4 months. During this period a hair still is not growing, although
it is detached to a follicle while its papilla is at rest. If the whole
process (cycle) of hair growth is taking a normal course then approximately. 10
to 15% of hairs remain at this stage.
After the Telogen phase the whole cycle is completed and the Anagen
phase begins. The new stalk of a hair is being formed and the old one
id being pulled out and falls out.
