The purpose of using Protein treatments
Hair is made up of dead cells filled with protein or keratin other components are Lipids (fats) and water produced by the hair follicles. The hair structure consisting of different layers:
The Cuticle is the top layer of hair, formed by different layers of cells. The cuticle and the cortex give your hair its strength. The cuticle is responsible for about 30% or our hair strength and the cortex gives us about 70%
Our hair cuticle should remain closed in order to protect our hair from damage and breakage. African American hair cuticle is really rough that is why "It is said that African American hair is layered twice as much as Caucasian hair"
From the moment our hair is expose to, Keratin Straighteners, Excessive use of heat, Relaxers, texturizers, and other related chemicals the cuticle become weak, and some times extremely damaged, in that case the cuticle can't protect our hair
cortex causing dehydration, hair breakage and hair loss.
Our hair cortex is what gives us fine or thick hair texture as well as the strength and color, “African American Hair Cortex is very small, much smaller than other races and is more prone to breakage"
The Medulla is the deepest or last layer of the hair only people with thick hair have a medulla. Although, the main function of our hair structure is not completely known.
The medulla main purpose is to expel substances and chemicals not needed in our hair also to retain the moisture our hair needs to remain healthy and grow.
Immediately after a chemical procedure is done to our hair, the medulla is destroyed that is why it is very likely to experience hair breakage and hair loss after chemical procedures.

Most African Americans have very fine hair and Our hair generally does not have a medulla; Our hair is often exposed relaxers, texturizers, blow-dryers, flat irons, hot curlers and so many other harsh Processes, ignoring the damage caused to our hair.
Improper hair care can lead to severe hair damage and hair loss
Protein is indeed a very important element for our hair nutrition, it is also important to treat our hair with protein treatments, lack of protein on your diet can affect your hair health and growth. However, Natural or unprocessed hair don't necessarily need to be treated with protein, but with the proper moisturizers, oils and deep treatments
Relaxed African hair is prone to dryness and breakage.
You should only use protein If your hair is chemically treated or if your hair is being exposed to excessive heat, which can definitely
cause permanent damage.
All chemical procedures including relaxers texturizers cause damage to our hair and we should use protein treatments to restore our hair health
Protein is excellent to repair and strengthen damaged and chemically treated hair, some protein are stronger than others so be careful not to over treat your hair with protein treatments
The constant use of strong protein treatments can dehydrate your hair and cause more harm than good.
