Best way to care for ethnic or coarse hair.
The key to great curls is not a good hair gel but how you care for it.
Biracial curly, or coarse hair is different from any other hair types, simply because our hair requires more moisture to maintain its natural beauty; there are many wonderful solutions and products to help us embrace our curls.
The first thing you must know, is how to keep your hair clean.
Washing and applying hair gel daily simply isn't the best option. I am not going to say that you shouldn't shampoo your hair or completely eliminate gels but, you will need to compromise and care for your hair in order to ensure curl definition and that your hair is healthy.
The truth is that, you don’t always need to use hair shampoos, you can skip the shampooing step and instead use the hair conditioner or rinse to wash your hair. (it is Ok to use the shampoo every two weeks to avoid products build up on your scalp. However, if you shampoo your hair too often , the chemicals in shampoo
will strip your hair of its natural oils. )
Overuse of styling gels can lead to dryness as well as products with high content of sodium, calcium, and certain oil-based conditioners .
Lack of protein, and moisture can often contribute to frizz.. The hair cuticle layers are not able to maintain the natural moisture causing dehydrated or porous hair.
Opt for products rich in moisture specially those created for multi ethnic curly hair.
Wear protective styles; those that avoid or eliminate pulling and
handling, this will eliminate the usage of hair gels, blow-dryers and
shampoos. (it is not a good idea to wear your hair wet or Blot hair dry
daily)
Air drying, can be time-consuming, but it is always the
best, these techniques will keep your hair moisturized and help your
curls to hold longer.
Avoid Chlorine, one of the things I do for
my daughter and my hair, before and after the pool is to apply a
silicon base product, (this will avoid the penetration of clorine water as much as possible) Silicones have the ability to wrap around the hair shaft to prevent the outside damaging agents from going in to the hair. That
is why most women find silicon products to work for their curly hair.
You should deep treat your hair, at least once a month and make sure the products you select contain natural ingredients, moisturizers and amino acids.
The best natural moisturizers for curly hair include: Soy, Aloe Vera, Jojoba oil, Wheat, Honey, Light Proteins and certain Aromatic Spices.
The best products to help curls definition contains: silk protein, Panthenol, glycerin, keratin, sorbitol, these ingredients are absolutely necessary in curly hair conditioners and treatments.
